Education Otherwise Than At School (EOTAS) is a route some families explore when a school placement is not appropriate for their child. Support here focuses on understanding the route, evidencing why school is not currently working, and setting out what your child actually needs.
When your child is out of education
If your child is not receiving education at all, the first job is usually to record the picture clearly: what has been tried, what is being provided now, and what the gaps are. Written support does that with you, step by step.
Section 19 duties are often part of that conversation. Support here is about preparing your evidence and understanding your position, not representing you.

What does EOTAS actually mean?
Education Otherwise Than At School (EOTAS) is education arranged outside a school setting, usually under an EHCP, when school is not appropriate for a child. It can include tutoring, therapy or alternative provision — and the Local Authority can be responsible for arranging it.
My child is out of school completely — is that EOTAS?
Not automatically. If your child has an EHCP, EOTAS may apply. If not, Section 19 duties can require the Local Authority to arrange suitable education for a child who cannot attend school. Which route fits depends on your child’s situation — that is exactly what the support here helps you work out.
What evidence do I need for EOTAS or Section 19?
A clear record of what has been tried, why school is not working, what your child is receiving now, and the gaps. Attendance history, professional reports and your child’s own voice all help. Written support walks you through exactly what to gather and how to present it.
Can Jess arrange provision or speak to the Local Authority for me?
No. Jess prepares your evidence, explains your options and helps you put your position clearly in writing — you stay in control of the conversation with your Local Authority. She does not act as your representative.
How quickly will I get help?
Written support is usually returned within 5 working days, and Ask Jess questions within 2 working days. You can also book a call for a same-week conversation. Each option shows its turnaround before you pay or book.
What this does not include
Book Simplified Support gives you practical, defined help while you remain in control of your case. To keep expectations clear, it does not include:

- • Representation at a SEND Tribunal or other hearing
- • Unlimited or ongoing case management
- • Automatic communication with your school or Local Authority
- • A diagnosis or clinical assessment
- • A guaranteed outcome
- • A promise that an EHCP will be issued
